Responsibilities

The Ahamed lab is looking for a full-time or part-time Research Technician. Our laboratory studies mouse models of heart diseases with a particular focus on fibrosis. We utilize state-of-the-art techniques in genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. The position involves breeding of our mouse colony, performing experiments utilizing a variety of techniques, analyzing data, contributing to management and contributing to laboratory management and oversight.

 

Assists, as needed, with administering injections, medications, venipunctures, applying wound dressings, and with diagnostic procedures as directed by supervisor and/or consulting veterinarian.

 

Identify, prepare and perform a variety of research experiments according to protocol. Projects and assignments are typically non-routine and variable in nature. Receive no instruction on routine work, but receive instructions on new work or special assignments. Collect and present data to Manager or Principal Investigator.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree typically in one of the biological sciences and/or equivalent years of relevant laboratory experience.

 

Should be familiar with lab techniques. Apply developing knowledge to coordinate day-to-day work, complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments. Basic knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, data base and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail oriented and work independently as well as a team player.

 

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals.

 

Ability to speak effectively to present ideas and data analysis to supervisor, who will decide how to proceed. Suggest changes to experiments and procedures. Ability to exchange ideas and procedures with co-workers and other labs.

 

Work Hours

Typically Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00 pm.
