Responsibilities

The Mao-Draayer Lab is looking for a highly motivated, organized, responsible person who will play a key role in achieving the mission of the lab. We aim to discover cellular and molecular mechanisms how immune dysfunctions cause human autoimmune diseases including multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, and other neuroinflammatory disease. We utilize variety of approaches including immunology, genetics, metabolomics, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Collecting human blood sample and PBMC isolations
  • Conducting flowcytometry immunophenotyping experiments as well as to assess immune cell functions
  • Conducting basic molecular biology experiments such as PCR, Western, tissue culture
  • Detailed documentation of experiments and results
  • Summarizing lab results and presenting at meetings
  • Participating in lab and departmental meetings

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree typically in one of the biological sciences and/or equivalent years of relevant laboratory experience.

Familiarity with pipetting technique and calculation of solution concentrations/dilutions. Ability to record detailed procedures and results.

Apply developing knowledge to coordinate day-to-day work, complete a variety of detailed tasks and assignments. Basic knowledge of Internet software, order processing system, database and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail-oriented and work independently as well as on a team.

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and protocols/procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion. Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals.

Ability to speak effectively to present ideas and data analysis to supervisor, who will decide how to proceed. Suggest changes to experiments and procedures. Ability to exchange ideas and procedures with co-workers and other labs.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of relevant lab experience. Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: immunology, molecular and genetic labs, tissue culture, or microscopy.

Work Hours

Typically Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm onsite, but must be willing to work occasional overtime.
