Responsibilities

The Lu Laboratory of the Arthritis & Clinical Immunology Research Program at OMRF is seeking a conscientious, highly motivated, organized individual to manage experimental animal colonies and perform behavior studies, animal-related procedures, and high-complexity laboratory tests. Detailed responsibilities for this position include:

• Manages large animal colonies (>500 animals) and is able to conduct, train, and coordinate various behavior studies in animal models, especially for small rodents.
• Performs various behavior studies to characterize neuro-psychiatric manifestations of specialized animal models.
• Assists and eventually independently performs surgical procedures required for animal studies.
• Performs standardized laboratory assays.
• Assists with the preparation of research results for publications, grants, and presentations.
• Operates highly specialized equipment requiring a high degree of skill.
• Troubleshoots and maintains equipment or computer hardware or related equipment.
• Assists in ordering lab supplies and equipment.
• Maintains lab notebook in an appropriate manner of all tasks performed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree typically in one of the biological sciences, physics, or chemistry or related area, or equivalent years of relevant laboratory experience. Plus minimum of 5 years of relevant lab experience.

 

Basic knowledge of Internet software and Microsoft Office software. Must be detail-oriented and be able to work independently as well as a member of a team.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of relevant laboratory bench experience.
Fluency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
Fluency with various animal colony management softwares
Preferred to have a diverse studying/working background that extends beyond biological fields and displays a passion for animals and willing to work with animals for scientific research particularly small rodents. Advanced understanding and application of principles, concepts, theories, and standards in a specialty field. Keeps informed of emerging issues in the scientific field and curiosity for new areas of scientific studies.

Work Hours

Typically Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM. Must be willing to work occasional overtime, including after hours, weekends and holidays.
