The Desktop Support Technician’s role is to provide a primary point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the institution’s end-user computing environment. This includes assisting with investigating and resolving software, hardware, networking, and other computer-related issues for users of various desktop, laptop, and mobile devices. 


Responsibilities

The technician…
• Provides first contact support of incoming requests to the support desk via telephone, web portal, email, and chat to ensure courteous, timely, and effective resolution of end-user issues.
• Supports end-user workstations by installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting end-user workstations and related hardware and software to deliver required service levels.
• Performs diagnostic testing and troubleshooting.
• Supports security for networked computing devices through various technologies.
• Provides one-to-one user training and assistance regarding email, web, security, and other applications.
• Stays abreast of changing technologies and new products.
• Identifies and learns appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the institution.
• Provides back up assistance for the OMRF events team through supporting and operating audio/visual systems in meeting rooms.

 

Key abilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, include:

• Assisting users in various offices and laboratories around campus.

• Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components.
• Lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.

Minimum Qualifications

•High school diploma, GED or Vo-Tech computer support training certificates and six months relevant experience or combination of relevant experience and education.

•Must have excellent customer service and communication skills. High attention to detail, dependability, promptness, and the ability to operate as a team member and independently are required.

•Basic knowledge of both Windows and Mac operating systems is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

•At least one year of relevant experience in an enterprise networking environment.

•Working knowledge of troubleshooting Windows and Mac operating systems in an enterprise networking environment is preferred.

•A+, Network+, or related certifications. 

Work Hours

Forty-hour onsite work week. Typically, Monday-Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm. Some work may be required outside the normal work hours.
