Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to these values.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated temporary Senior Technical Specialist to join the multidisciplinary Stout Laboratory within the Aging & Metabolism (AM) Research Program at OMRF. The Senior Technical Specialist will investigate how sex hormones and their receptors modulate hypothalamic neurocircuitry and the sex-specific regulation of systemic metabolism during the aging process. The successful candidate will employ a wide range of techniques including stereotaxic injection of AAVs into the brain, chemogenetic approaches (DREADD), brain imaging, single-cell transcriptomics, in vivo metabolic assessments, and a variety of cellular & molecular biology techniques. The candidate will present their data regularly in laboratory meetings.

The Stout Laboratory and AM Research Program welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds that thrive in a highly collaborative and supportive environment. The AM Research Program provides an exceptional training environment in aging biology (Geroscience). The AM Research Program also has a strong collaborative history with faculty from the Oklahoma Center for Geroscience and Health Brain Aging at OUHSC which has resulted in a Geroscience Training Grant (T32 AG052363) that supports graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OMRF and OUHSC. The collaborative program also houses the Oklahoma Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in Basic Biology of Aging (P30 AG050911), which provides pilot funding for junior investigators. OMRF also offers an annual grant writing course (F-troop) for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows that plan to prepare grant applications (F- or K-awards) for the NIH.

Minimum Qualifications

• The candidate must have at least a Bachelor’s degree typically in one of the biological sciences, with at least 8 years of hands-on research experience.

• Prior experience writing manuscripts and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Prior experience, or a willingness, to mentor graduate students and/or laboratory technicians
