Coordinates and executes rheumatology research projects. Performs nursing duties in a rheumatology research clinic setting including research and data management, patient care, sample collection and processing, and medication administration. Tasks require a high level of organizational skills and the ability to ask the right questions to determine proper course of action while following established standards and research protocols.   DUTIES: 1. Clinical Trials. Conducts research and assists researchers by recruiting patients, determining eligibility for clinical trials, and seeing patients through research studies including obtaining informed consent, administering questionnaires, taking medical histories, study drug administration, assessing and reporting adverse events, and performing all study related tasks as outlined in study protocols and in adherence with GCP, ICH, and HIPAA regulations. 2. Chart Review. Performs medical chart review to abstract data for research including but not limited to constructing medical history and medications chronology, evaluating disease progression, and mapping symptom and biomarker associations. 3. Communication. Liaises between principal investigator, patients, third party patient care service providers, research sponsors, and governing agencies to ensure strict adherence to protocol and regulations throughout study conduct. Excellent written and oral communications required. 4. Patient Care. Assesses and records symptoms, vital signs, and other patient information required for research protocols and to prepare patient for examination. Review records for documentation of study inclusion/exclusion criteria. Carries out physician orders for testing and treatment and coordinates follow-up care of patients. 5. Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, saliva, etc. Prepares samples for analysis or shipment. Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records. Excellent phlebotomy skills required. 6. Medication Administration. Under direction of physician or other medical personnel, administers FDA approved and investigational medications to patients. IV certification preferred. 7. Data Management. Gathers, organizes, analyzes, and submits patient and research data to principal investigators, scientists, and sponsors. Computer skills required. 8. As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Provides case management services for autoimmune disease patients (primarily multiple sclerosis). Gives presentations regarding the autoimmune disease clinic to patient groups, other health care providers, and potential donors. Presents regular informal oral presentations of progress and results to supervisor and colleagues. Keeps abreast of changes in protocols and procedures.

The Postdoctoral Fellow’s responsibility will be to elucidate the mechanisms by which signaling molecules regulate cardiovascular development and disease. Towards this end the fellow will use mouse models to investigate pathological changes in tissues such as the gut, heart, lungs and brain; use cellular and biochemical approaches to characterize the signaling pathways; and use omics approaches such as RNA-seq and ATAC-seq to elucidate the molecular mechanisms. The fellow must be willing to learn the techniques that are available in the Srinivasan lab and OMRF and establish new protocols as they become necessary. The James lab is looking for a Research/Medical Communications Specialist to serve as the communications specialist for a large, vibrant research program and two large clinical/clinical research Centers of Excellence focused on improving understanding and patient outcomes in autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases. Serve as the primary conduit sharing findings between members and institutions in the consortium, through helping our team develop interesting and informative content for Network newsletters, web postings, press-releases and a knowledge portal. Help disseminate research findings from this large national consortium to the patient organizations, steering committee, funding partners and patients afflicted with these diseases. Help cultivate, grow, maintain and retain strong relationships between patients and OMRF through a variety of communication methods including but not limited to social media platforms, electronic and paper mailings, newsletters, recruitment tools and phone scripts. Respond to patients regarding study outcomes, results and impact. Reconnect with patients and participants from previous studies to grow patient pools. Assist with clinical trial marketing and recruitment. Create pamphlets, newsletters and handouts, in collaboration with ACI scientists and clinical investigators that are up to date, accurate and consistent with messaging and treatment options. Organize and implement regular outreach with current and potential referring physician practices and hospitals to increase their understanding of how OMRF clinical research and services can benefit their patients. Work with coalitions, community organizations, and patient support/advocacy groups to identify opportunities to educate our communities about the importance of inclusive research participation. Design and create infographic rich flyers and correspondence for collaborators in various departmental research programs. Partner with OMRF Public Affairs to develop communication materials and bring awareness of OMRF clinics’ strengths and services to the Oklahoma community and associated research activities. Provide additional support for clinical and clinical research programs especially in order to cultivate and recognize patient relations and perform other duties as assigned.
